January 2024 Dear Parishioners, In the pages that follow is a summary of parish income and expenses for the fiscal year that concluded in June of 2023. Our total ordinary income increased by $29k over the prior fiscal year. Not including the forgiveness of the federal (PPP) loan, our income increased by $146k during the fiscal year. About $37k of the increase was from continued property rentals, $32k was from an increase in faith formation fees, and $25k from other miscellaneous income, including our parish carnival. The balance of the increase was due to your generous donations. There continues to be a trend towards more online giving, which is something we encourage. Thank you for your continued generosity and support! While overall expenses decreased by $20k, we still had a net deficit of $187k. Much of this is reflected in the nearly $100k security grant from the State of California for which we are still waiting for reimbursement, while the remainder of the deficit can be found in higher costs for employee health insurance, utilities, and other administrative expenses. While we have many excellent volunteers, employing trained professionals is necessary to provide high quality services to our 2,700 parish families. The Finance Council has made recommendations where we can reduce and eliminate the deficit where needed, and moving forward this year it is my expectation in collaboration with the Finance Council to eliminate the current deficit. As we do every year, our parish made significant donations to the Together in Mission annual appeal, Catholic Charities, St. Vincent de Paul Society, and other charities. We are excited to share that as of June 30th, 2023, our contributions to our Called to Renew capital campaign totaled $347k, which is over 20% of our $1.646 million total pledge. Work on our church and school roofing and HVAC systems are beginning in the near future. Our parish assets remain well positioned as our total cash and investments are $845k. I leave you with a note from St. Paul: “You are being enriched in every way for all generosity, which through us produces thanksgiving to God, for the administration of this public service is not only supplying the needs of the holy ones but is also overflowing in many acts of thanksgiving to God.” (2 Cor 9:11-12) Fr. Ethan Southard, Pastor Mercedes Dakay, Finance Council Chair Finance Council Members: Primo Custodio, Jenny Crandall, Brian Safdari, Dennis Resurreccion, Dennis Loomis, Lisett Bautista, Victor Asemwota, Shy Suttles
